City Films has added award winning director Kelly Hommon to its directorial roster. Hommon joins David Denneen, Derek McKane, Phil Meatchem and Sandy Smolan. Sheila Tighe and Josie Leonard, co-founders of City Films, made the announcement.
Through her new association with City Films, Hommon has just completed filming a documentary, entitled “A Legacy of Hope,” about The Raisa Gorbachev Foundation. A City Films Production, “A Legacy of Hope” depicts young children living in Moscow who are being treated for cancer, and also includes a rare interview with former Soviet statesman and Noble Peace Prize recipient Mikhail Gorbachev. “A Legacy of Hope” debuted at a multi-cultural gala in the UK on September 22nd โ the event raised 1.3 million pounds sterling for both the Gorbachev and the Marie Curie Cancer Cure organizations.

About KELLY HOMMON
Kelly Hommon is an award winning director. She was the director of TV’s “Mind of Mencia,” a director of numerous segments for “Real Time with Bill Maher,” and a director of numerous episodes of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Discussion” for the TV Guide Network. The winner of Emmy, ACE and NY Film Festival “Gold” Awards, she is also the recipient of an International Documentary Association Distinguished Achievement Award for her project, “Century of Women.”
Kelly regularly directs the annual Vanity Fair Oscar Event, and many of the major events she has directed during her career have been on behalf of superstar Barbra Streisand. In addition to “Bill Maher” and “Curb: The Discussion,” Kelly’s other comedy directing credits include segments for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Mind of Mencia,” and “Jack Black is Late” for Larry and Laurie David for their NRDC “Earth to America” event, hosted by Tom Hanks.
Kelly’s foray into reality came from her love of documentaries. Her first directorial feature film, “The Beauty of their Dreams” is a 90 minute documentary about the value of personal dreams, with its backdrop an open tryout for women’s professional basketball. Early in her career, Kelly directed a live special from the U.S. Open Golf Tournament held in Birmingham, MI, “Teeing Off at the U.S. Open,” which received an Emmy nomination.
About “A LEGACY OF HOPE”
“A Legacy of Hope” is a documentary short film which premiered at the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala on September 22, 2011in the UK. The film,
written, produced and directed by Kelly Hommon, features an exclusive interview with former Soviet statesman and Noble Peace Prize recipient, Mikhail Gorbachev, and gives an overview of the origins of and work done by the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation, named in honor of Gorbachev’s late wife, Raisa.
The film also touches on the work done by the Marie Curie Cancer Cure in the UK ( a leading provider of end of life care) which partners with the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation for this annual gala fundraising event. The film was shot on location in Moscow and London and was funded by Russian Standard.
The film depicts children under treatment for cancer in the Blokhin Clinic in Moscow. Also appearing are several Russian physicians and moving words from children being treated for cancer and their families.
