Award-winning, bicoastal music production house, The Lodge, has announced the expansion of it’s audio post production capabilities with the launch of its new flagship mix room – a state-of-the-art Dolby® approved 5.1 Mix Theater for film and television projects. Formerly known as New York’s most awesome karaoke room, The Lodge’s third audio post suite has been completely overhauled to include full 5.1 surround sound (and stereo) audio mixing, Dolby® print mastering, voiceover, ADR recording, ISDN remote voice records and a 120″ screen all set in a spacious and incredibly comfortable movie theater-style studio.
A tuned room with Dolby ® Approval is a measure of technical excellence at every level of the studio’s operation. Room acoustics, monitoring standards (visual as well as audio), equipment selection, installation standards, synchronization accuracy, mixing competence, and technical experience are all measured and evaluated as part of the approval process. The standards are based on Dolby®’s research and the vast experience of studio engineers who have worked all over the world producing multichannel film soundtracks, and can only be awarded after rigorous testing and calibration by Dolby®’s engineering staff.
“Dolby®’s standards for feature film mixing are the highest in world,” says Eric Hillebrecht, Creative Director and partner at The Lodge. “To have a space like this enables us to exceed the demands of quality our clients expect from their final mixes. Since our commercial clients have continued to move into 5.1 as well as longer format web and branded entertainment content spaces, their knowledge and understanding about the importance and differences in quality, whether in long or short form, have generated the demand for a room like this.” The first client putting the new room through its paces was feature film Director Tamar Halpern, who finished her new movie “Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life” with The Lodge. “Huge screen, amazing sound, knowledgeable engineers and super comfy,” says Halpern. “On top of our audio post mixing, we were able to use the room for screenings as well.”
The Mill’s Director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan used the room for all the sound design, music, and mixing for his latest project “Carrot vs. Ninja”. “John Northcraft (Sound Design and Mix) and Eric Hillebrecht (original music) just knew what I was after. When they committed to the film, they just went for it and made it sound great right away. I am grateful that the Lodge was a part of this adventure.”
Jason Spingarn-Koff, director of the feature documentary Life 2.0, says, “The Lodge’s new mix room is a real gem in New York. They helped us greatly to test and finish “Life 2.0″ before our Sundance premiere.”
Billy Near, senior VP at Arnold Worldwide in Boston, and broadcast producer for the new Jack Daniels Tennesee Honey campaign, adds “The digital films swarmed to life and the Jack Bee became awesome with the sound design that the guys at The Lodge brought to it.”
