Rap star Snoop Dogg talks about “life, love, music, marijuana and what we do,” during a one hour television special which will air on the TV One Channel December 12th. Jay Silverman directed the special, which was produced by Susan Banks and Paul Skorich. TV One’s Cathy Hughes serves as host.
During the course of the one hour TV special filmed at renowned East West Studios in Hollywood, Snoop Dogg reveals:
> “Hollywood don’t understand me. They put me in movies as the sidekick instead of the lead. So, I’m gonna start making my own movies with my own stories with real substance. The only way I’ll be a movie star is to create them myselfโI’m gonna become the whole thing. Hollywood don’t believe, so I’ll make them believe.”
> Music is life. Today, hip hop music is running the whole music industry. There isn’t a genre that doesn’t borrow from hip hop. But we were black sheep to begin withโฆhip hop music was never meant to last this long. Now, we’re the ones who created this mainstream cross-over.”
> “My mother raised me to love people and to not have a view of what color they were, or where they came from, or their social status. It was just about people. I grew up with people from all walks of lifeโthat’s why my music appeals to everybody. Cause I make it for everybody.”
> “I’m not a teacher, but I know a lot of what I do is inspirationalโฆI try to be articulate for those people who look up to me. As I get older, I’m getting wiser and stronger and becoming who I was really meant to me. Not that 17 year old kid who was always getting into trouble.”
> “Sometimes gang members don’t want to be in gangs anymoreโthey don’t want to be doing drugs or hanging at the liquor storeโฆthey want rehabilitation. But someone has to give them a window of opportunity. I’ll always hire someone just out of jail and on paroleโcause I used to be that same guy. I try to stay connected to where I came from.”
> “I love smoking weedโit’s what I am. Alcohol and tobacco are sold over the counter every day, killing way more people than marijuana. I’m Bob Marley reincarnated.”
Director Jay Silverman said, “Snoop Dogg is truly an American original. While his candor and honesty about his life and his past may be shocking to some, you can never say the guy’s boring! This one hour special will present viewers with a comprehensive look into the mind of one of the music industry’s most successful and unique artists of the past two decades — not to mention the fact that he’s become a living legend. Snoop, today, is a global icon across the worlds of music and popular culture.”
