Oink Ink, the creative radio agency based in Midtown, has announced a new initiative to focus on the conception and writing of ads made for television. Consistently recognized in the radio industry for nearly 20 years as a perennial award-winner, the company is moving ahead with plans to provide the same caliber of creative work to its clients in television advertising, says its President, Dan Price.
“Our first collaborations in television came about five years ago when we were successful in a creative shootout against established TV companies for the game show ‘Wheel of Fortune,'” says Price. Since that time Oink has been tapped by several other clients for the same on-point writing that they’re known for. According to Price, “Our client base eventually came to ask more and more that the resources that we built and tap everyday to create radio become involved in that same function for their TV ads.”
With a roster of writing and production talent that encompasses New York City and the whole of North America, Oink Ink has compiled a pool of some 37 writers to handle its significant demand for radio creative. “That’s the work we enjoy mostโbecoming involved from the inception stage,” says Price. “Eventually the volume dictated that we compile such a large volume of great writers. I honestly think we have the most talented collection assembled.”
Beyond just writing, many of Oink’s TV clients have depended on the firm to assist them through the storyboard stage and creative-consulting through the duration of their project. Oink has alliances with some of the industry’s very best executive producers, storyboard artists, animators, and production companies. The company also enjoys a close relationship with New York’s Click 3x, allowing for the execution of nearly infinite possibilities.
“We’re excited to be working with Oink Ink in the TV world. They come to Click 3x to execute any style of technique, which allows their creatives to come up with any concept,” according to Click 3x President/Partner Peter Corbett. “The combinationโfrom a visual standpointโmeans anything is possible.”
For television, Oink Ink stands out in the industry by offering a one-stop, comprehensive stable of talent that’s scalable to small and large agencies alike, as well as clients-direct that may not have worked with advertising agencies in the past. Oink’s best-known work is usually humorous and live-action, but several of their spots have been animation-based, employing various techniques. They also include dramatic samples in their portfolio. The bicoastal firm (Oink also has offices in Los Angeles) just completed an animation project for Accountemps in collaboration with two-time Academy Award nominated animator Bill Plympton.
“We see television as a natural extension for us, and we’re thrilled by the opportunities we’ve been given recently,” says Jim Price, Oink’s executive creative director, and brother of Dan. “Our business model has evolved these past few years, and we’re excited about some other extensions as well." Oink in fact sold rights for a cartoon project they created to the Walt Disney Company, and have additional entertainment concepts in the works.
