The Location Managers Guild of America (LMGA) is honored to count 18 of its members as finalists for the 2010 California On Location Awards TM, popularly known as the COLA, to be presented on October 24, 2010 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Now in its 16th year, the COLA is the pinnacle of recognition for location professionals, production companies and public employees for excellence while working on location in the State of California. The awards are hosted by FLICS (Film Liaisons In California Statewide) and decided upon by a committee that includes a judging panel of industry professionals that include Location Managers, Producers, UPMs and Set Designers. The COLA honors the Location Professional and Location Team of the Year in the categories of commercials, stills, episodic television and feature films, as well as the City, County, State and Federal Public Employee of the Year for their contributions to California’s Entertainment Industry.
“Location Managers are an integral part of the design team for any TV, film or commercial project,” notes LMGA President Lori Balton and a COLA nominee herself, “the COLA is the forum for recognition of our contribution to the process.” Adds Balton, “LMGA members pride ourselves on being the best in our field, so I’m not surprised to see our members represent the majority of the COLA honorees.”
Unlike many of the other production crafts who work primarily within the timeline and framework of the production, Location Managers function as the primary liaisons to the “outside world”, the public‐at‐large not always on the same timeline as the filmmakers and to the various businesses and government agencies with which the production interfaces. This is where the relationship with the FLIC’s liaisons and government service officials go handin-hand as they are invaluable in helping the Location Managers accomplish their production’s goals.

“Ǝvolution” Comes Full Circle At The Chelsea Film Festival
The Chelsea Film Festival, running from October 16th through October 20th, 2024, at Regal Cinemas here in Union Square, is set to host the East Coast premiere of Ǝvolution, a thought-provoking experimental micro-short film that proves big ideas can come in small packages and in perfect circles.
In just 1 minute 16 seconds, this cinematic gem by Award-Winning Director Romina Schwedler, with original music by Argentine Composer Ignacio Montoya Carlotto, explores a cycle as old as time: life leads to progress, progress leads to destruction, and destruction, well, leads back to life. But is this vicious circle unbreakable? Ǝvolution suggests the answer is yes, unless we decide to open our eyes.
Inspired by the overwhelming number of recent events that threaten human existence, Ǝvolution, possibly the shortest film in this 12th edition of the festival, plays out entirely through the symbolism of circles, cleverly illustrating —in the blink of an eye— the repeating patterns of history, and confronting viewers with the uncomfortable truth that our so-called “progress” may, in fact, be guiding us to our own ruin.Premiering at the Regal 14 Union Square, New York City, on October 18, 2024, at 11 a.m., Romina Schwedler's micro-short, featuring Leah Young with cinematography by Alan J. Carmona, will be sure to spark conversations longer than the film itself! Forcing viewers to reconsider the true meaning of evolution, not just as a biological process, but as a reflection of our collective journey as humans.
With a string of festival appearances across the globe, including CineGlobe at CERN (Switzerland/France), Oscar®... Read More
