The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced Tuesday that it has reached a tentative agreement for a new national commercial contract with the Association of Independent Commercial Producers, Inc. (AICP).
The agreement covers a two-year term from November 1, 2009 through October 31, 2011 and includes salary increases, the adoption of a code of preferred practices on creative rights, and provisions protecting and securing pension and health coverage for directors.
“I’m very pleased by the outcome of the commercial negotiations, especially considering the state of advertising in this economy,” said DGA President Taylor Hackford. “By working together with the AICP, we were able to find solutions that will benefit both sides of the table, ultimately providing more work for all of us.”
“The new agreement contains not only important benefits and protections for our members but also creative solutions to ensure that our partners are able to continue providing new jobs for our members,” said Russell Hollander, Eastern Executive Director of the DGA.
“The AICP is delighted to have reached a tentative agreement with the DGA for this new contract,” said Matt Miller, President and CEO of the AICP. “The outcome reflects the unique partnership between commercial producers and the Guild. This continued commitment to work cooperatively allows us to address the unique circumstances of the times, helping to ensure that the commercials industry, AICP Members and its key employees play a relevant role in the evolving advertising business.”
“The preparation, hard work and flexibility of the DGA Negotiations Committee and the AICP negotiators led to an outcome that is beneficial for all of us,” said DGA National Executive Director Jay D. Roth. “Both sides are to be commended for their commitment to achieving a new agreement that addresses important issues while fostering an environment in which commercial production can flourish.”
The proposed agreement will be presented to the DGA National Board, which meets in New York on Saturday, October 24. The Board will be asked for its approval of the agreement and its recommendation that the agreement be sent to the DGA membership for ratification.
