A long-time sponsor of the Cannes Film Festival, Renault has now put itself firmly in the Director’s chair with the launch of a short film of its own.
Entitled ‘Le Laitier’ (The Milkman), the time-warp film becomes Renault’s first-ever ‘movie’ van advertisement campaign in the UK. Initially shown online as a one-minute execution on www.renaultvans.co.uk, the ad will air later in 2009 on UK television screens as part of the French brand’s pre-launch awareness campaign for its eagerly-awaited large van range, New Master.
The ad, created by Publicis, with the end, ‘Renault Vans. Dependable since 1901.’, features a pristine Renault van from the early 1900s being driven very much at its own pace around the ‘Peripherique’ and through the traffic-clogged streets of Paris en route for a service at a Renault van centre. Watching the driver and his beloved workhorse weave their way gently through the French capital with their precious cargo, set to a nostalgic soundtrack and with more than a hint of humour, a whole new legion of Renault fans will be captivated by the charming ad.
‘The Milkman’ is available to view now at www.renaultvans.co.uk.

Marketers often associate sonic branding with catchy mnemonics used by big brands like McDonald’s, Netflix and Intel in their advertising. But that is a very limited view of what sonic branding is and what it can do. And it’s not limited to members of the Fortune 500. Brands at all levels can benefit from a sonic identity that is memorable, engaging and reflective of its core values. Sound has been scientifically proven to be deeply tied to memory and emotion. There’s a reason that certain songs stick in your head and bring back memories formed years or even decades earlier. So, it’s surprising that sonic branding is often an afterthought in marketing plans. That is especially true in social media marketing. Faced with tight deadlines and strained budgets, creative teams are often tempted to select music for their content simply because it “fits.” Unfortunately, that may result in content that is in tune with what’s trending but is out of tune with brand identity. Effective sonic branding, by contrast, requires thoughtful strategic planning,... Read More
