AFP and Getty Images have agreed a worldwide video partnership, effective from the beginning of March, which will allow both agencies to market their video content in English.
Getty Images captures all the iconic moments from the world of stage and screen, including the major film premieres and festivals such as the Oscars, the Grammies, the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards. The deal will allow AFP to complement with entertainment material its already richly varied service on current affairs, politics, the environment, lifestyle and fashion.
“AFP and Getty Images have enjoyed a global partnership in imagery for many years,” said Erik Monjalous, AFP’s Group Sales and Marketing Director. “It is only logical to extend it now to video, a medium in worldwide expansion. AFP’s distribution of Getty Images’ videos will add the perfect complement to our news and features oriented AFPTV offer: the extremely sought after coverage of celebrity and entertainment events.”
“Also, Getty Images’ distribution of AFPTV videos will bring AFP another opportunity to increase its video revenue, which is currently enjoying double digit growth.”
“We are delighted to represent AFPTV within our industry-leading footage portfolio”, added Lee Martin, Senior Vice President, Sales, Europe & Asia Pacific, Getty Images. “The daily distribution of AFP’s multiple news stories from around the globe is an excellent addition to our editorial, archive, and creative footage collections available to our customers for immediate download on gettyimages.com”.
The growth of AFPTV in 2008 has made it one of the Agency’s strongest performers, and the service is now available in seven languages: French, English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Arabic and Polish.
AFPTV has expanded its service and now has 40 production units across the world. Those include major world hotspots like Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Gaza, as well as capitals such as Washington, London, Moscow, Berlin and Madrid. Meanwhile, the service continues to develop its news and feature coverage around the world.
High-quality reportage and unique features have become a trademark of AFPTV, driven by a relentless search for the most striking images, real stories and human portraits, providing a refreshing alternative in the coverage of world news.
