Award Winning Australian Film Composer Branches Out into Advertising
Nylon Studios, a sound and music company based in Sydney and New York, recently signed up Australian film composer Michael Yezerski to write original music for television commercials.
“We’re looking forward to working with Michael. He brings amazing experience from his work in feature film scoring and composing for large scale orchestras,” said Nylon Executive Producer Mark Beckhaus.
Michael, based in Sydney, says he’s excited about the opportunities provided by working with Nylon Studios, who are known for their commitment to pushing the edge on creativity. His earlier work on commercials for McDonald’s, Snickers and Jeep has provided a taste for the challenge of refining ideas to be communicated within a 30 or 60 second time frame. He is enthusiastic about the potential television commercials provide for introducing original music to a new community of fans.
Michael Yezerski is known for his wide range of musical styles, a result of an early decision to work in song writing, symphonic scoring and music production. He studied musical composition under Peter Sculthorpe and Ross Edwards at the University of Sydney graduating with first class honours. Michael then graduated with distinction in Audio technology from the Australian Institute of Music and completed film music studies at the prestigious Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
Film Composition
Michael Yezerski‘s most recent work was the score and original songs written for Elissa Down’s 2008 film, The Black Balloon winning APRA-AGSC Australian Screen Music Awards for Best Soundtrack Album and Best Original Song. Michael wrote music for Claire McCarthy’s 2007 film Cross Life, and worked with Chris Nelius on additional music for both Clayton Jacobson’s 2006 film Kenny and Paul Goldman’s 2006 film Suburban Mayhem. He won international awards for music written for ballet films Thursday’s Fictions and No Surrender, developed in collaboration with Physical TV Company.
Collaboration
Michael collaborated with violinist, composer and conductor Richard Tognetti, to produce The Red Tree for String Orchestra and Children’s Choir. He collaborated with singer/songwriter Josh Pyke on "When We Get There", the title song from The Black Balloon. He has also written music for The Australian Chamber Orchestra, Gondwana Voices, Synergy Percussion, David Campbell and Simon Day. Michael has also composed the score for CIRCA, the new permanent installation at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.
Awards
Michael’s earlier accolades include Gold Medals at the 2004 and the 2006 Park City International Film Music Festivals (USA), the inaugural APRA Professional Development Award, Best Classical Artist at the 2004 MusicOz Awards (where he also received a nomination for Best World Music Artist), APRA-AGSC Australian Screen Music Awards (including Best Song Composed for the Screen in 2006 and Best Short Film Score in 2003) and nominations, an attendance at the 2002 ASCAP International Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles and the AFTRS Critics Circle Music Prize.
Michael continues to write for film, represented by Norman Parkhill at inSYNC. His music will feature in Claire McCarthy’s new film, The Waiting City, set in India. Michael found inspiration for his work from two weeks in Western Bengal learning from traditional musicians.

A&G’s New Third Space Studios Fills A Community Gap
A&G's (Allen & Gerritsen) new Third Space Studios is not just a full-service production offering for the creative agency. It's filling a gap in the community by making a complete video and production facility (live-action studio, production extension, editorial & motion, and audio services for podcasting, voice-over and online audio) available to all. Larger organizations like Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts and Meet Boston, individuals like creators and collaborators, and nonprofits like the Boston Symphony Orchestra and The Wonderfund are already accessing both the space and the affordable creative and production support that comes with it. The Wonderfund has even tapped the studio for an entire brand relaunch. The studio is an extension of A&G’s Third Space, a new concept the agency opened in Boston and Philadelphia last year to give employees, clients, creators, and even startup incubators (Boston currently has two) a place to gather, dream, and innovate in comfortable surroundings. Located inside its Boston location (125 High Street), Third Space Studios is available to the Tishman Speyer building’s tenants who can use its ZO building app to request studio services ranging from studio rentals to co-creation to full-service production. Other businesses nationwide can request services through the studio website. Albolene, Certain Dri, and ThermaCare are examples of national clients that have utilized... Read More
