Kodak announced that it will again be a major sponsor of PLUS CAMERIMAGE, the only international festival dedicated to the ‘art of cinematography.’ Now in its sixteenth year, the week-long event has a unique purpose: to celebrate those who create images in motion and to provide recognition for their artistic contribution to visual storytelling.
The festival will run from 29 November through 6 December in Lodz, Poland, the city called ‘the capital of the Polish cinematography.’
“Through the years, an expanding number of sponsors have joined our efforts, but Kodak has been with us since the beginning,” said Marek Zydowicz, director of the festival. “Their support has helped us grow PLUS CAMERIMAGE into what it has become: a global forum for cinematographers to discuss their experiences, share their knowledge and exchange ideas.”
As one of the founding sponsors of the festival, Kodak will present this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Cinematography, as well as the ‘Golden Frog,’ the grand prize, selected by a jury of cinematographers. While the ‘Golden Frog’ winner will emerge from on-site competition, the Lifetime Achievement winner will be the highly-respected French cinematographer, Pierre Lhomme, AFC.
“Mr. Lhomme’s career has spanned more than half a century,” said Thierry Perronnet, the Kodak EI European Middle East and Africa Marketing Director. “He has served as director of photography on more than seventy movies and has won the highest honors for his work on ‘Cyranno de Bergerac,’ among other films. We are proud to add this unique and prestigious Kodak award to his many achievements.”
Kodak will also take the opportunity at PLUS CAMERIMAGE to inaugurate the launch of The Image Forum. An association of representatives from a broad range of film industry companies and professions, the Image Forum will work to address issues relating to the image quality of both British and international film and television productions. Forum members come together out of a shared belief that the entire industry will benefit from a greater degree of clarity on various technical subjects. Delegates from key organisations such as The European Federation of Cinematographers (Imago), the British Society of Cinematographers (BSC), the Production Guild and the Guild of British Camera Technicians (GBCT) are among those on the membership roster.
“There needs to be more clarity on the whole subject of image acquisition,” said Perronnet, who will participate as an Image Forum panel member. “Our discussion will focus on helping creative professionals to make an informed choice when selecting the tools for each individual project.”
Kodak continues to provide new tools to its filmmaker customers, and will announce several product innovations at the Festival, including the new KODAK VISION2 500T Color Negative Film 5260. The new film combines the rich saturated color reproduction and contrast from the popular KODAK VISION family with award-winning VISION2 film technology. In addition to this new film stock, Kodak will also discuss two new VISION3 products currently under development – a new color negative film and a new digital record out color intermediate film.
Kodak will also be hosting a presentation at 5 p.m. on December 4th at the Grand Theater. Here, industry professionals will focus on the future of cinema and the extended capabilities of film technology through capture, post, archiving and film restoration.
In addition to the special presentations and forums, the festival includes competitions, special screenings, premieres, retrospectives, seminars, workshops, meetings and associated events such as exhibitions and concerts.
“CAMERIMAGE is a unique meeting place where the art and technology of cinematography come together,” said Perronnet. “Kodak is here to recognize cinematographers, to thank them for what they do, and to help them use our products to continue to expand their creativity for the future.”
