40 years after the August 30, 1968, release by Mary Hopkin of the international smash hit song “Those Were the Days,” Morgan Visconti continues his parents’ legendary musical heritage. Morgan, the son of Mary Hopkin and Tony Visconti, is a co-founder of– and composer with โ NYC and LA-based HUMAN, one of the world’s most acclaimed original music production companies, with clients that include such major advertisers as Levi’s, Nike, Coca-Cola, Sprite and American Express.
Morgan has very recently produced musical tracks for the Coca-Cola “Olympic Bird’s Nest” and the American Express “Member’s Project” TV spots currently airing, as well as the tracks for a Liberty Mutual online film for director Laurence Dunmore (“The Libertine,”) and an original tune, “Shine,” for a new Pantene campaign, sung by newcomer Rosi Golan, that has become an online sensation.
Morgan’s mother, pop singer Mary Hopkin, recorded her first record, “Those Were the Days,” in l968. The song, which was produced by Paul McCartney and released by The Beatles’ Apple record label on 8/30/68, was Apple’s first single. “Days” became a #1 hit on the UK singles chart, and reached #2 on the U.S. singles chart. McCartney also recorded Mary singing “Those Were the Days” for release in Spain, Germany, Italy and France.
Morgan’s father, legendary music producer Tony Visconti, has worked with a wide array of notable performers since launching his music career in London, also during l968, and won a 2008 Grammy Award for producing Anglique Kidjo’s CD “Djin Djin!” which won in the “Contemporary World Music” category. Tony produced many of David Bowie’s albums, including “Space Oddity,” “The Man Who Sold the World,” “Diamond Dogs,” “Young Americans” and “Heroes.” In addition, Tony produced recordings for The Moody Blues, T. Rex, Badfinger, Thin Lizzy and Adam Ant. In the mid 1970s, after Mary Hopkin’s contract with Apple ended, Tony produced Mary’s re-recordings of “Those Were the Days” and another of her hit songs, “Goodbye.” The two were later married, with Morgan and his sister Jessie, also an accomplished singer/songwriter in the UK, as the happy result.
A Brooklyn native, Morgan has composed original music for over 400 high profile television commercials during the course of his career. His company, Human, has just entered its 7th year, where his responsibilities include original composition and steering the company creatively. Additionally, Morgan collaborates with–and produces songs forโmany rising musical artists, such as Leah Siegal, Sam Bonner and Rosi Golan, to name a few.
