Director Benjamin Blank of Locksmith Content, Los Angeles personalizes future sultans of swat in a new :60 “Small World” for Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes and the 2008 Little League World Series out of Leo Burnett, Chicago, IL. The spot, which gives us a stylish glimpse into the lives of Little Leaguers around the globe, will be used to brand Kellogg’s and promote the ‘biggest little game on earth’ for the next several years.
Games started in the Williamsport, PA tournament August 15th and will be played up to the championship game on the 24th, which will be televised on ABC at 3:30 PM (EST).
“Small World” opens on planet earth. We pull back to see that the planet is actually the size of a baseball just as a giant-sized Little Leaguer takes a mighty swing. The ballplayer connects with earth, hitting it out into the cosmos like a ball over the Green Monster. An African-like tribal song begins and we cut to ballplayers from Japan, Brazil, the US and more turning two, diving for line drives, in batting cages and dugouts. Shifting from the ballpark to players’ homes, kids of all shapes and sizes pack their bags for Williamsport, singing along to the tribal tune. A voiceover begins, “They come from the playing fields of Asia, Europe and Latin America… from halfway around the world.” We see a doting Japanese mother kiss her son goodbye, a Puerto Rican player high-five cheering neighborhood kids chasing his taxi through the barrio; an international sendoff to what’s truly become a global pastime. The teams arrive and rush the diamond, greeting one another with Olympic-like camaraderie. The voiceover continues, “[The international teams] all bring with them a common goal: to earn their stripes. Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes salutes the hard work and passion of Little Leaguers everywhere.” Tony the Tiger himself then appears alongside the young players to declare, “They’re great!” We cut to black and the “Earn Your Strips” logo and tag appear to close out the spot.
