On the heels of an overall restructuring, the New York Festivals announced its call for entries for the 2009 International Film and Video Awards. Now entering its 52nd year, the award honors “The World’s Best Workâ˘.” The competition recognizes work on a global scale in feature-length, short and documentary films; informational, educational and industrial film productions; and corporate and home video.
The overall changes in the competition include a category revamping, a restructuring of the judging process, and changes in pricing. Existing category designations have been simplified for maximum efficiency for entrants and jurors. New technical/craft categories have been added for features and short films, encompassing such areas as direction, cinematography, animation, visual effects, music, sound design, art direction and production design.
This year’s entry pricing has been significantly modified, from a detailed per-category system to a more efficient system of three basic price points. Entries in USD are as follows: Single entry $200, Single (Technical/Craft) $250, Series $300. There is also a special student rate of $100.
The competition’s judging will be conducted by an international jury, both online and in live sessions, to maximize the advantage of both formats. Executive Director, Joel Goodman commented that, “this will give us the opportunity to further internationalize our juries, and the ability to execute individual as well as group sessions.”
According to Mr. Goodman, “The overall streamlining of the competition, from categories to pricing to the combination of live and online judging capabilities allow for the dual advantages of an easier submission process and most importantly, effective, comprehensive judging. Our mission remains the same: to recognize and award the best work of the past year.”

Boris FX Brings Greater ML Power To Continuum’s Video Editing and Visual Effects Toolkit
Boris FX announces the release of Continuum 2025, which strengthens its machine-learning capabilities with a growing list of creative effects and innovative tools. The award-winning plugin collection now includes six internally developed, ethically trained ML-driven effects that streamline workflows and save artists valuable time. Continuum 2025 is available with subscription pricing starting at $195/year. âContinuumâs two new ML effects take tasks that are traditionally tricky, applying dynamic motion blur to live action shots and concealing license plate identifiers, and provides users with speedy and accurate one-click solutions,â says Boris Yamnitsky, President and Founder of Boris FX. âThe addition of Motion Blur ML and License Plate ML highlights Continuumâs continuing push towards developing ML-driven post-production tools that take the guesswork out of laborious tasks while ensuring artists maintain their creative freedom.â âContinuum 2025âs standout effect is Motion Blur ML. Its machine-learning optical flow only blurs the moving section of a shot, isolating and leaving untouched sections with none or less motion,â states Ra-ey Saleh, offline & online editor (Discovery, TLC, HGTV). âIt's perfect for any type of production, making it easy to add an extra layer of realism or more in-your-face stylization to video and text.â ML Technology BCC+ Motion Blur ML uses a sophisticated ML algorithm to instantly detect pixel movement and apply realistic motion blur to video and motion graphics. Users can adjust blur intensity and direction (forward, backward, or a combination) or... Read More
