Editor David Herman has come aboard Crew Cuts, San Francisco. He is also available to cut projects at the Crew Cut facilities in Santa Monica and New York. The San Francisco operation is headed by editor Erik "E.J." Johnson and executive producer Amy Burlaga.
Herman joins Crew Cuts after two years as a staff editor at Plank, the in-house editorial division of TBWA/Chiat/Day, San Francisco. While there, he worked alongside agency creative director Chuck McBride and executive producer Jennifer Golub, cutting spots for such clients as Levi’s and Pets.com. Among Herman’s credits there are the current Levi’s "Karaoke" campaign, including the McBride-directed spots "Jeans On," "Downtown," "Karma Chameleon" and "Kung Fu"; the Game Show Network’s "Botulism," directed by Roman Coppola of the Directors Bureau, Hollywood; and OnHealth.com’s "Ladies’ Man," helmed by Bryan Buckley of bicoastal/ international hungry man.
Herman began his editing career at Venice, Calif.-based Kovel Kresser & Partners (now Kovel/Fuller, Culver City, Calif.), where for a year and a half he edited commercials for clients including Sempra energy. Earlier, Herman was a freelance production manager on music videos and commercials in Los Angeles. During that time, he worked alongside several directors, including Wayne Isham, now of Los Angeles-based A Band Apart.
Herman earned a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, and a master’s in German philosophy from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Ill. He also spent time in Germany before relocating to the West Coast to pursue a career in the entertainment business. While working his way up the production ranks, he tried his hand at directing with some spec commercials, which he cut himself, thereby jump-starting his career as an editor. His additional credits include editing spots for the Gravity Games and Sony PlayStation.
