SHORT CUTS
Janimation, Dallas, created and produced a "pinball concept" for Payless’s 50 percent off sale, via Barkley Evergreen & Partners, Kansas City, Mo. "Pinball" begins with a ball being thrust through a chute and onto a playing field where it encounters shoe advertisements, 3-D shoe flippers and a host of other lights and bumpers. The commercial finishes with the flipper knocking the ball into the "o" of the Payless Shoesource logo. For Janimation, Pete Herzog was design director, Greg Punchatz and John McInnis were 3-D artists, Steve Gaconnier was visual effects supervisor, Jennifer Hudgens was production designer, and Marc Kleinmann was editor.
Coral Gables, Fla.-headquartered FireWorks Motion Media worked Fresca’s "Autos" and "Bandas," out of Lowe Lintas & Partners, Mexico City. The commercials center on a dancing Fresca truck and bottles of the beverages zipping around and arriving at a party. To create the texture and movement of the animated bottles and truck, FireWorks senior effects artist Leopoldo Lovera applied photorealistic techniques and Matchmover software for 3-D tracking. Motion graphics designer David Castaneda designed the animation, with Wally Rodriguez, director of visual effects, utilizing the Flame.
