Over his 20-year career, beginning at Lucasfilm/ILM, Matthew has worked on many diverse projects, ranging from blockbuster films like Star Wars to campaigns and collaborations with Ferrari, Lady Gaga, and the U.S. Department of Defense. At Zoic Labs, Thunell was instrumental in data visualization and XR projects with Air Force Research Lab, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, where he brought stories to life with visuals that blend design, science, and purpose.
The co-founders of 9iFX, Tracey and Michael Miller, have long sought someone who not only understands the intricacies of VFX, but can also navigate the high-stakes world of defense and aerospace. This rare combination is exactly what Thunell brings to the table.
